I’m a little bit obsessed with ensuring my handbags fit my laptop. So I have a collection of them for any given outfit (by collection I mean two and an extra pouch). I also have a really nifty Razer backpack which I tend to use when travelling. It has a huge amount of space for my laptop, electronics and a host of chargers and cables. Great when I need to travel but a little bit bulky when I’m at an event like rAge where I need a backpack to keep my camera and laptop on me but don’t really want the bigger bulkier option.
Which is why I was pretty excited to see some pictures of the Targus Newport Collection. The backpack is exactly what I was looking for. Small, sleek and feminine without the bulk. It arrived for review and on taking it out the packaging I panicked. It looked so small. My OMEN by HP gaming laptop currently fits in the Razer backpack but not much else, despite being at 15″ notebook (so it should, by rights, fit in my handbags). I was specifically looking for a bag for it…. Cue disappointment, or so I thought.
Turns out the Targus has the space!
Even though it was a tight squeeze the OMEN fitted. I liked that the notebook had a separate compartment at the back. The front compartment has a zip pocket, some smaller pockets for things like your purse and phone while there is also larger space included for a camera or other electronics.
The front of the bag has three extra compartments. One is ideal for charging cables with two smaller compartments for lipstick or hand sanitizer (a must when you’re at expos and cons). There is an additional secret compartment right at the back of the bag as well. I was actually blown away by how much space such a small bag offers up!
Style and Design
The Targus Newport backpack is available in black, navy and olive. I received the olive bag to review and I love it. The colour is better than a usual boring black while including black leather finishes that just add a level of style to the bag. I’m most in love with the inside though. It is a gorgeous orange. Orange is one of my favourite colours and I love the pop of funk that you’re greeted with on opening the bag. The twill nylon exterior is water repellent (which also means it is far easier to clean). There is also a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the bag.
I’m really obsessed with this bag. It is gorgeous and clearly well made. It is also extremely light and petite despite still being able to carry my gaming notebook. I’m marking this up as a GREAT find. It retails for R1599 and is now available in South Africa.
Disclosure: I was sent a Targus Backpack to review and photograph. Not to keep.
