I’m pretty driven when it comes to certain things: like work and finding chocolate at 9pm on a Sunday night. However, anything that involves shopping sends horrific chills down my spine. I recently made the decision to move to a new apartment in Bryanston. The rest of my household (and my beloved dogs *sob*) would be staying put which meant I was limited with what furniture and appliances I could take with.
Needless to say, I did what any self respecting Tech Girl would do and figured I could get everything I need online without ever having to leave. Have you been able to furnish your house online? It is no easy task. The first thing I decided to do was employ the assistance of Alan Foley. I knew Alan from his countless photos online. As he is an influencer I’d met him at a few events and immediately rang him up. Alan’s job was to hunt down the necessary furniture and accessories I needed to make the small space a comfy home. No easy task when you consider the limited space we had to work with.
I needed appliances. For this I contacted Carla at Consider it Done. Her online business helps you do pretty much anything you want to. In this instance I asked her to find me decent appliances. She went over and above. Rather than decent appliances, Carla was able to find a sample store having a clearance sale. I’d set out to get a small microwave and washing machine. I left with a washer dryer combo and giant microwave both at a fraction of the cost that I’d spend in store. The sample store stocks products that were used as demo units on the floor at stores or possibly have a dent or scratch on them.
Carla also helped me decorate my Spiderman themed bathroom. I’m rather proud of that one.
Finally, I did the unthinkable and reached out on Twitter to find a bed. Yup, I simply tweeted asking if anyone knew a decent place to find a bed. I ended up being directed to Beds-Mattresses and foam factory outlet. Their website looks a bit dated and I worried about being scammed. I specifically wanted an extra high bed. I contacted Shaun via email. He confirmed he’d deliver at 9am on a Sunday AND said he was happy to accept payment on delivery. No deposit nada. He arrived exactly at 9am to deliver my gorgeous (and comfy bed). He also helped get my dishwasher up the stairs.
Between these three businesses I was able to furnish the entire apartment online. No physical shopping needed. All I can say is thank goodness for the internet! We used the new spot to take some photos for a look book for my fashion blogger friend Anne. You’ll be able to see each look in more detail weekly on her blog here. For now I’m sharing a few of the glorious photos here. Isn’t Anne just incredibly beautiful… and so is my apartment!
