The DSTV Content Creator Awards have been running for three years and I am proud to say I’ve been a nominee each year. For the past two years there were no gaming specific categories. I was nominated in Podcast of the year 2022 for Tech Girl Talks and in the Sports Fan category in 2023 for my work in esports. This year the awards have a Gaming Creator of the year award and I’ve been nominated.
The annual awards event showcases creators across various categories which adapt and change each year. The Gaming Creator category is a new one. I think the judges will have their work cut out for them because I definitely don’t fit the brief. As an esports commentator my content focuses on competitive Counter-Strike and commentary around international tournaments. Competitive Counter-Strike is a niche of esports and a niche of the game itself, both of which would arguably be niches of gaming. I don’t live stream or produce gameplay. So I think my very unique position will probably work against me if judging criteria is set a specific way to focus on gaming as a whole. Should be interesting!
Charis Coleman, Head of Digital Content for the MultiChoice Group had this to say about the awards:
The DSTV Content Creator Awards have quickly become a highlight on the digital and social calendar, providing a platform to showcase the creativity and innovation that drives our content creation industry. This year’s nominee list is a testament to the diverse and vibrant talent that continues to shape the digital landscape.
