I like a good deal. I liked a good deal even more so when I was a student and all my money was being poured into my studies. Which means I’m a fan of Varsity Vibe, a student discount app you might dig.
Varsity Vibe is a smartphone app for both Android and iOS (or you can log in via their website) that offers up exclusive deals for students and members of the app. Only students can become members and utilise the deals on offer. The app is legit, it’s been operating in some form for around 9 years now and there are always new deals on offer from a host of big brands and rad stores.
There is a cost though
If you are a student and want to take advantage of the deals, you’ll need to pay R200 for 12 months of access to the app. But there are some rad ways to gain free membership.
If you’re a Standard Bank MyMo/Student Achievers account holder you get automatic free access to the app.
Telkom is also offering up free access if you are a Telkom subscriber and you use the app. You’ll need to spend R50 or more on the network, but that will secure you access to the app and free membership.
Data deals
I’m not one to advertise data deals or promo cellular providers like this, but data is expensive and even more so for students. Telkom is running a stack of decent data discounts on Varsity Vibes, so if you are a Telkom subscriber already and you’re spending more than R50 a month it will cost you nothing to jump on the app and access those.
Here’s how to get free membership for Varsity Vibes
Step 1: Download the Varsity Vibe App
- Create a membership / sign-in
Step 2: Search & Redeem your Telkom deals
- On your 1st attempt, it will ask you to link your Telkom number
- Then choose the deal/combo you want
Step 3: Get VV Premium for FREE
- All the EXCLUSIVE Premium deals and discounts at all the other VV Partners is now available to you
- All you need to do is load R50 airtime within 30 days
To be clear, I’m not a student or a Telkom subscriber so I haven’t been able to test this at all, but figured it would be worthwhile sharing in case it benefits someone!
