Apparently rAge is letting me take over their Instagram account
WHAT?! rAge is around the corner – like this weekend around the corner – and it is set to be the biggest gaming and tech celebration in Southern Africa for 2018. This is the 16th year that the expo is taking place and it has a strong history in our country. It offered up the first experience of its kind – allowing guests to bring their own computers and jam with friends in the NAG LAN for 3 full days while also presenting the best new games on the expo floor. For years it has been an esports staple and was the stomping and starting ground for many of South Africa’s past and current top players.
rAge is rad alright?
And this year they’ve asked me to be part of the action. My friend Chani and I have been asked to take over the rAge Instagram account for expo week. In short, we’ll be given free reign to show you all the behind the scenes action and give you a glimpse into #agalaxyofgeek. If you can’t be at rAge I’m hoping we’ll be able to ensure it feels like you were still part of the action. If you’re still on the fence about buying a ticket you’ll be able to get a feel for the energy on the floor from the Instagram account and be convinced to pull through (trust me).
Here’s why you want to be at rAge 2018
Historically, rAge was the place to go if you wanted to jam games. It didn’t matter your level of skill, you knew if you spent the weekend at The Dome in Northgate you were going to get your hands on some of the best new games – some of them not even released yet. As time went on it also became the premier esports venue, hosting the biggest tournaments of the year. A lot of people had their doubts when Comic Con was announced and occurred so close to rAge. When VS Gaming decided to move their end of year tournaments to Comic Con there were a few whispers about the negative effects on rAge. OMEGALUL. Seriously, this year’s rAge seems to have taken the challenge in their stride and completely flipped up their offering. There are SO MANY games to play this year and some great esports tournaments. Let’s break it down:
Games and game code
At this time there are still 4 games that haven’t been announced as the organisers are waiting for confirmation BUT there will be game code available for the following, as yet, unreleased titles:
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
The Division 2
Call of Duty Black Ops IIII
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Starlink: Battle for Atlas
Super Mario Party
While there won’t be code available there will be a Fallout 76 activation that you’ll also want to get your ass to. Over and above the new releases there are a stack of other games you can jam at various stands including:
Forza Horizon 4
Over and above all of this Playstation is bringing a stack of incredible VR titles to the expo for you to play and there is a Home-coded stand that is going to feature all locally developed games. You can find out a bit about these titles and what will be on offer to play here.
But what else is there?
Seriously… that isn’t enough? New games to play, favourites to jam, the NAG LAN to join in on (rumour has it there are more than 1000 LANers this year!) plus Cosplay competitions, tech specials and Comic Book stores selling their stuff? There’s a lot! Plus there is a bunch of esports action on offer as well. There is a Quake tournament, Street Fighter battle (oh hi RedBull), Fortnite competition and even a Fifa tournament.
Basically rAge 2018 is going to be rather rad and both Chani and I are excited to share that with you. So here’s what you need to do to keep on top of the action:
?Follow rAge on Instagram – our takeover starts tomorrow and we’ll be hosting live AMAs on Wednesday to get the show on the road.
? Be sure to buy your ticketfor rAge if you haven’t already (PSA: there is a special discount sale happening on Wednesday this week. Thank me later).
? Check out the blog tomorrow for a full list of where you can find me at rAge. A lot of you have been asking. Over and above the rAge IG takeover you’ll be able to find me having some fun at various spots throughout the weekend. I’ll release that full list tomorrow so we can all plan to meet up and jam some games!
I usually send out a weekly mailer with a recap of blog posts but also some personal anecdotes. If you want to know about competitions or just catch up in a more personal setting then you might like to receive the mailer.
