Dota 2 challenge

The 30 second Dota 2 Challenge

#SPONSORED

Dota 2 is a pretty complex video game. I’m still trying to wrap my head around all the working parts that have turned it in to one of the biggest competitive video games in the world. There is a really simple explanation but it still doesn’t do it justice.

However, I’m going to try:

Two teams of five players each compete against each other. They play on this really pretty forest type setting with each team having a base on opposite ends of the map. The goal of the game is to destroy the other team’s building. This building is called an “Ancient” and is in each team’s base.

Still with me?

There are a stack of different characters each team can choose to play. These are called heroes and each hero has a different skill and brings a new element to the game. Simple enough right? Not really. There is a stack more to this game and when you first start watching and playing you’ll be completely lost. The Telkom DGL Masters Grand Final is happening at rAge in Johannesburg later this year. It is going to be the most epic spectacle and I love that Telkom is really focusing on making this fun for every spectator – whether you’re an eSports fan or not. I’m on the same page as Telkom here. I love eSports and, I think, once you have a basic understanding of the game and get to know some of our fantastic local players you’ll be as hooked as I am. So to help you get to find out how rad these professional players really are, I decided to challenge them to a little competition.

I asked players from Carbon, Aperture Gaming, White Rabbit Gaming and Bravado Gaming to explain Dota 2 in 30 seconds. Which team came out on top?

I'd love to chat to you some more.

I usually send out a weekly mailer with a recap of blog posts but also some personal anecdotes. If you want to know about competitions or just catch up in a more personal setting then you might like to receive the mailer.
