What we think you should know:

Astro A38 Headset

Straight out of the box the Astro A38 headset is sexy as hell. I got the white pair to test out and they had this funky yellow trim. They had square cans which I found interesting and the cushioning didn’t offer up the cup type feel I’ve come to expect from on ears. I did worry a bit about this to begin with but once on you can wear them for most of the day without much of a hassle.

Astro A38 Headset review

My pet peeve about on ears is that after a few hours of wearing them they press in to my earrings and it becomes really annoying. I didn’t experience that with the Astros. Despite the platicky build they actually feel premium in use. The cushioning on the headband is an added bonus.

They don’t fold up for travelling so you’ll need to make a little bit more space in your handbag but the cute star motifs on the cup cushioning might make up for that. You can also customise the speaker tags which is rather rad.

The Astro As38 headset works off a Bluetooth connection. If I had to fault them it would be that when they’re charging you can’t use an Aux connection to keep using them. So if you forget to charge and desperately need to escape from the real world… you’ll be annoyed.

Other than the charging issue they’re pretty damn cool. I connected them to my Macbook Pro and an Android phone without any issues. The sound is good. They’re designed for mobile gaming and some voice if you use headphones for that (WHY). The quality of sound was great and I wasn’t disappointed. However, there is a maximum volume limit. So if, like me, you like to test out ‘phones by blowing your eardrums out listening to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody – it isn’t going to happen (it’s actually a safety standard if I’m not mistaken… but I like living on the edge).

I liked these phones. They’re sexy as hell without being over the top. The battery lasts for a long time and they’re easy enough to set up. The Bluetooth connection also lasts for a decent distance (I toddled round my office to test them out).

If you’re looking for new headphones and don’t want to drop bigger money – you’ll dig these.

So rad:

  • I really like the design.

Makes us sad:

  • Not being able to use them when they’re on charge. Bummer.

Disclaimer: I was sent the Astro A38 Headset to review – it goes back to the supplier now.
