3 Fitness Gadgets to use outside of the gym

The one thing that attracted me to the GoHealth set up was that the app tracked your activity outside of the gym. Living a fit and healthy lifestyle is so much more than working out in the gym. GoHealth’s app and machines communicate with one another to track your movement and the incredible gym staff can then work with you to optimise your workout and ensure you get the results you need.

While apps, smart machines and clever fitness wearables that track your steps are great – there are also other fitness gadgets to use outside the gym. I was recently given a box of various fitness gadgets from Quantifi. There were some interesting offerings but these three definitely stood out as great tools to help you on the road to a healthier and fitter you:

1. Withings Smart Body Analyser

AAAAH. Scales. Every girl’s worse nigthmare. This one isn’t all bad though. For starters it connects with an app on your phone (iOS or Android) and that app works with a host of fitness apps. When you weigh in the scale takes in to account your weight but also your body composition, ensuring you get a good idea of what your target goal weight should be. What I also like about the Smart Body Analyser is that one scale allows you to create profiles for the whole family and it is smart – so it figures out who is on the scale based on their weight (or weight loss). It retails for R2599.00.

2. Withings Blood Pressure Monitor

Let’s get personal for a minute. Both my mom and I suffer from high blood pressure. A few years ago my mom suffered a stroke and since then I’ve been terrified for both her and I. I consciously work on keeping my blood pressure down and being able to monitor it with the Withings Blood Pressure Monitor is great. The monitor looks really funky and connects with an app to allow you to better analyse the data it collects. The monitor wraps around your arm and then the gadget does readings on your blood pressure and your heart rate. It retails for R1899.00.

3. Withings Aura

Fitness is far more than running on the treadmill, exercise goes hand in hand with decent rest, which is why the Withings Aura is a great extra aid. The Smart Sleep System monitors your sleeping patterns through environmental sensing and then shares the data with a mobile app. The gadget comes with a small pad that slips under your pillow which then monitors your sleep cycles. It comes with a rather pretty looking bedside gadget that then has various lighting and sound options that help you fall asleep and rest properly. It retails for R4199.00.
