Catch a free ride with uberX this weekend

Psst, uberX has launched in South Africa.

Uber what?

Here’s a quick history lesson:

Uber is a worldwide transport service that works via an app on your phone. You register and put in your card details, request a pick up and are notified of a driver nearby and when to expect them at your location.

uberBLACK was the only service available in Johannesburg. It was snazzy with a fancy driver and higher end vehicle. But it could be rather steep. The Minimum Fare was R50 and it cost R11/km and R1.10/min. uberX, in comparison, has a minimum fare of R20 and costs R7.50/km & R0.75/min (don’t expect the snazzy car though).

Bottom line?

Affordable cabs in Jozi via your smartphone.

Best part?

From today until Sunday (17 August) you can catch an uberX for free. That’s right, you’re able to catch a free ride with uberX this weekend! The Uber app is available on iPhones, Android, Windows Phones and the Blackberry 7.
