I’m a huge fan of supporting small local businesses and so each year I try hunt down a few options for Christmas gifts. I’ve found three great options this year that I think you need to take advantage of ASAP. I’ve used all three, spent my own money with them and, so far, have had great service. So if you’re trying to grab some last minute presents, here are some local geeky Christmas gifts you’ll love:
Sugar Plum Fun
You can find Sugar Plum Fun on Instagram. The Instagram run business has a host of fun geek accessories that you’ll fall in love with. There are adorable make-up bags, cute pins and even Nintendo Switch joycon sleeves (those aren’t on Instagram yet but I’ve ordered some for my Switch and they should arrive next week). There are also some cute airpod cases and stacks of other fun geeky items you’ll want to get your hands on (many of which cost less than R200). Pricing varies depending on what you want and Sugar Plum Fun will ship nationwide via courier or deliver if you’re in certain areas in Johannesburg.
Geeky Christmas Decorations
I am so incredibly wary of Facebook Marketplace listings because I’ve heard so many stories of people being scammed. However, when I saw Lauren’s post about geeky Christmas decorations, I figured I’d splurge and hope for the best. I ordered a bunch of decorations and I don’t want to spoil the surprise for those that will receive them, but I can 100% recommend Lauren. Her service was quick and the items are ADORABLE. I absolutely love them. You can get a host of Harry Potter and Star Wars decorations, depending on your style. The pricing is also really good, with items starting at around R120. You’ll need to get hold of her on Facebook here, but definitely worth spending some cash with her! I’m pretty sure she can courier items if needed.
Comic Book Art
Zaid Motala is offering a great service this year – putting yourself on a Comic Book for Christmas! The artist offers a bunch of different illustration options and I immediately commissioned him. I’m still waiting for the final product but from the sketches I’ve seen I am so excited. His pricing is also incredibly good and he can courier your one of a kind piece of comic book art to you. He runs commissions through Instagram so you’ll need to reach out to him here. Definitely a rad one to look into if you’re wanting something unique for the festive season!
