If the image below does not look familiar to you, you’re too young for me bro.
This is a throwback to when gaming was simple, losing was emotional, sibling rivalry prevailed, and what my school holidays were made of. Also, this is how the original street cred was attained in my neighbourhood.
Outrun; Pacman; Street Fighter I,II,II; Yie Ar Kung-Fu; Circus Charlie; Mario Bros; Tetris… These were the foundations of gaming as we know it.
Hellooo Inner Child…. behold the new waster of time: The Internet Arcade.
This is a web based library that is entirely dedicated to archiving games from the 1970s through to 1990s with more than 900 retro games, some that are over 30 years old. Just like that your favourite arcade games are on the internet.
Yes this is a throwback of epic proportions.
Ryu – always!! My original #mancrush
Like… how long was this field, those fire rings were the stress of my existence:
Running from these creepy eyes caused many finger blisters:
The library consists of a back up of Atari 2600, Atari 7800, the Magnavox Odyssey, the Vision and the Astrocade.
(I am not that old, no, but that is just how far back this archive goes).
Why we think this is cool?
Well, because you don’t need to go through extensive downloading and installing of additional software to support and translate the outdated control mechanisms of the games.
The games are ported through a JMESS (Javascript Multi Emulator System), this functionality is not always perfect but it does allow for the recreation of the games using only your web browser.
In other words, you will be able to play the game directly in your web browser.
Controls:
Games are controlled by using the left shift/control/alt buttons and the arrow keys.
Select 1 = Single Player / 5 = Insert Coin.
Mouse support does seem to be an issue too, but the point is not intensive gaming, I just use this for a random time waster and for hitting the nostalgia feels.
Check it out and tell us what your favourite childhood games were in the comments below.
