TomTom Runner Watch

TomTom Runner Watch up for grabs for Women’s Day!

As you ease in to the work week following the long weekend I thought now was a good time to remind you that yesterday wasn’t just “another” day off. It was a public holiday following Women’s Day on 9 August. I hear a lot of men complain about this day and why they don’t have their own. But there is a valid reason. Women’s Day and similar initiatives aim to celebrate women and our struggle to be seen as equals.

Before you scoff at that think about this – do you know that before the 1980s there were no long distance races for women in the Olympic games? Women were only allowed to compete in the Boston Marathon in 1972.. that’s less than 50 years ago! From voting, being allowed to own land to running marathons – we deserve to celebrate the women who fought for our right to be treated as equals and also who fought for the rights of EVERYONE to be equal during the Apartheid regime – which is what Women’s Day is all about.

TomTom Runner Watch

Tech Girl is taking this a step further thanks to TomTom and we’ve decided to celebrate Women’s Day (and month) by offering you the chance to win a glorious TomTom Runner Watch this week. The Runner Watch is rather special. Valued at R1699, it has a few funky features including indoor tracking (so you can monitor pace and distance on a treadmill when you don’t want to brave the dark in the morning), it pairs with a host of popular running sites and social media platforms like MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal and RunKeeper, it is also waterproof up to 50 metres! Yay.

The TomTom Runner Watch can pair with your devices via Bluetooth, has QuickGPSFix AND there is the option to include a heart rate monitor. All in all it is a great watch for runners but, just as importantly, it looks really good on your wrist which allows you to easily transition from the road to the office without having to worry about changing the accessories and the battery lasts up to 10 hours in GPS mode so it should get you through your day. Are you salivating for this baby?

  1. I wish there was one but there is two. My 1 year old who inspires me to be more active and my mom who inspires me to never give up. Both of these women push me to be all that I can be and to be more than I think I am. Each day is an adventure, a great arm piece would help me push the limits when it comes to my fitness which has fallen off of the boat but I NEED to get back to it. Being fit and healthy is a priority in our family, the motivation to document my progress by looking at my wrist is one that would really come in handy.

  2. My daughter inspires me, though she is small she makes a huge impact on my life. I know I need to be a good example for her to grow up with Sisu – Sisu is about taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity. And children learn by watching what you do. If you take care of your body and if you are fit – your child will follow your example.

  3. My mom is definitely my biggest inspiration – she has got me through some of the hardest times, and is always so strong and grounded. I know I can always go home to her whenever I need anything, and she always reminds me to try and do my best at everything. I am so proud to call her my mom!

  4. My Mom,is the most amazing role model to me and inspires me on a daily basis; as she has never steered me in the wrong direction, allowed me to make my own mistakes without so much as an “I told you so.” She afforded me the space to grow and learn for myself without ever being so far away when I needed her. My mom, my mentor, my strength, my number one fan and, most of all, my best friend. She will has always been a constant force in an ever-changing life. I know that through her love, wisdom and friendship she has given me the ability to love unconditionally, to cherish every living creature and to treat them with the utmost respect and kindness. If I am able to grow to be half the woman that I see in her, I will consider my life a success. I can say, with certainty, that without her by my side, I would not be the woman I am today. Everything I have achieved, I owe to her. She is my pillar of strength and my most trusted friend.

  5. A special friend of mine who, despite surviving a terrible car accident in uni that resulted in her becoming a quadriplegic, still goes on to live her life to the fullest each day – incredibly inspiring!

  6. My mom! No matter how hard I try to adult, when I need comfort, she is always there. Car accidents, relationships ending, kitchen fiascos, Mom’s always going to mother, selflessly 🙂

  7. Angelina Jolie! If I had to send a human representative to another planet, I’d send Angelina Jolie! She is an incredible human and an excellent representation of humanity!

  8. I think every woman’s first inspiration is her own mother and for me that continues to be and will always be the case.

  9. Who else but the inimitable wonder that is my partner in life? She’s inspired me to be happy come what may 🙂

  10. My mom of course, who just turned 88 and still bakes gluten free wheat free sugar free bread for us ?, does her own housework, plays bridge and thrashes her opponents regularly, too many things to mention here but a fantastic role model to all of us.

  11. Hi Sam, its an oldie but a goodie….My mom! She is currently looking after her own mom with altzeimers and its really getting to me how much Moms do and care for their kids, their parents and even complete randoms.

  12. My grandmother who is no longer in my life, will always be my inspiration. How she helped raise me, her values and ethics. I miss her dearly and hope I can be a inspiring role model for my daughter as my gran was for me.

  13. I’m inspired by the woman who kicks ass in a male dominated industry and helps other women do it too; Who has overcome her restrictive upbringing, abuse and hate from nay-sayers and from weaker men and women around her and grabbed life by the balls; Who has survived rape/illness/hunger/self-esteem issues and makes a point of teaching her daughter the value of integrity and persistence on a given course and of self-love, so that she may survive whatever curveballs life throws at her, too; Who gets up early in the morning to exercise/run/go to gym because work and family commitments require all of the rest of her day, every day and the only time she can do it is while everyone else is still asleep; Who knows that “beauty” is a bullshit construct designed to distract women from the things that matter – Do we ever see men buying magazines dedicated entirely to the subject of making themselves more beautiful? Do they care whether anyone is going to do business with them or respect and value their opinions because they’re not beautiful enough?; Who takes pride in her personal appearance nonetheless, because she loves who she is. I’m inspired by this woman because she is me. She is you. She is Everywoman and she is friggin’ awesome!

  14. I admire one of my friends’ mothers. She is currently fighting cancer. She was misdiagnosed almost 3 years ago by doctors (read multiple doctors) and the cancer progressed aggressively. It was heartbreaking when she was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago. She has gone for chemo and 2 operations already. She has cried buckets, but she keeps on fighting to stay a little longer and to get better.

  15. My youngest daughter is my inspiration. She has been through a tough 2 years, but she is far from giving up what she wants most. She doesn’t complain about the cards she was dealt, but she is making sure that she stays on top of any progress made in the world that may help her. She is brave.

  16. My own mother is definitely my inspiration, she gave our family everything she could with what she had. X

  17. The woman that inspires me is Thuli Madonsela(Public Protector) I respect her for being a strong woman and she’s very professional and she has taught me so many things about life and that you can be anything that you want to be and your voice will be head no matter what people are saying behind your back you can conquer the world and to never compete with others because the only person you should be competing with is yourself. “Everyone is fighting their own battle.”

I love her so so much…

  18. My sister inspires me that woman is no ordinary ary 24 year old she’s a super woman, the things she does and sacrifices to ensure that she puts a roof and food on the table for her younger siblings is just extra ordinary. I really respect her and I don’t know if I will survive if I could walk a day in her shoes she’s God sent and a blessing in my life

  19. REHANA SEEDAT email: dseedat@telkomsa.net My best friend Fathima Mohamed inspires me, not just for the kind hearted person she is, but also for
the love she has for her family and community. She is involved in many
activities in our community which sometimes keeps her up early hours of the
morning. This has never bothered her because she strives to bestow happiness
and joy to the underprivileged. An individual with a heart of Gold that always
brings a smile to anyone’s face. She always tells us to see good in others and
she never judges people based on how others perceived them. It is her goodwill,
humanity and selflessness that has made her rich. She is an educator in a
school in a poor area in Kwazulunatal, she holds those kids so dear to her
heart as she patiently educates them about God, school subjects and makes sure
    they are always smiling.

  20. Being an athlete, I find that I have many women in my life that I look up to for inspiration… How many can I name? 🙂 Funny enough, these women inspire me not only in the athletic world, but the ‘life’ world too. Being young and having experienced the loss of a spouse, they have lead me to a place where I can only be happy, strong and in turn, an inspiration towards other women. These women are Lesley, Julie, Louise and my best Claudine – all three with their own stories to tell. They are strong, kind and always there when you need them! 🙂

  21. It’s got to be my gran, the love she has for people, her grace and strong faith have always inspired me. She’s a real classy lady and I love her to bits!

  22. My mum is my inspiration .. she has taught me the meaning of hard work, dedication and the secrets to success in life. She inspires those around her and motivates people to always be the best that they can be .. she is the reason that I am who I am today

  23. There are many women who inspire me.. from my late Mom to ladies closest in my life who all put their bra on, one boob at a time, yet go out there and are just AWESOME!

However, my sister is an inspiration to me everyday as she goes about every day making a loving home for children in need with love and kindness. She rocks my world.

  24. Dear old Mom 🙂 She looked after her mom in-law on her deathbed while her own children didn’t lift a finger.

  25. How can I say a few words that do justice to all of the years of love and strength that MUM gave me? I hope that the real tribute to MUM will be the actions of my life, that I AM a testament to the love and lessons that she has instilled in me….Life Lessons are the best gifts that MUM has instilled in me, the tools in which to tackle lifes challenges & help me grow into something that she can be proud of # Nurturing..My Mum is the most amazing role model in my life. She has always shown me what it means to be a loving, successful human and encouraged me to create the person I want to be and be that person ….From the time I was born, up until now, there has always been one person totally invested in my happiness, Her valuable lessons are priceless # MUM # My Greatest Blessing…

  26. My boss! She’s fierce, humble, a born entrepreneur and a creative genius. She makes you feel like you belong, she motivates (even though she doesn’t even know it) and allows you to grow within your own strength. She told us once “do what you love and then do a lot of THAT.” So if you love the beach, go there every day. If you love reading, do that every day. Find the time to do what you love so that you never lose yourself in this rat race. I love writing, people and sport. I do that every day and she allows me to do that every day. I love Mondays!

  27. My mom. she has gone through so much and still rose above. My shining star and my super hero, growing up i felt she was the super villain, but now that I’m older, i know why. much love mommy. love you forever.

  28. All the women in my life inspire me…From my late mother, to my grandmother to my aunt now living in Australia 🙂 So blessed to have (and have had) such generous, loving family to help me grow into a strong, fierce and independent woman!

  29. My granny inspires me, she lived with us for a number of years before moving to the Netherlands with my grandfather. Always supportive and an incredible baker, a skill which I got from her. The watch would come in handy when working off those extra calories from the scones.

  30. My mother in law is my greatest inspiration because she ran her own business (that she still owns today) while raising her kids and looking after her family.

  31. I have a whole list of women who inspire me, but for this one I will mention my mom. She supported my father, who is blind, through his university years (she was already a qualified social worker) and continued supporting him every step of the way. People admire my dad’s success, but rarely comment on her part in it. Yet, she never tries to blow her own trumpet about it.

  32. My wife is my inspiration. Mom of 2 and just did her first 30km in prep for Cape Town Marathon.
This watch would be the ultimate gift for my superwoman.

I wanna be like her when i grow up 😉
