South Africans to add on Snapchat

4 South Africans to add on Snapchat

I always thought Snapchat was used by teenagers to send nudes to one another. And then, on one of my Tech Girl travels I met an extremely good looking (and funny, I’m not that shallow) American guy who kept showing me his entertaining Snaps and I decided it was time I got on the Snapchat pony (because it looked interesting and not at all because I was secretly hoping good looking American guy accidentally shared his nude snaps to his public story).

Snapchat is a fun way to create stories and interesting content to share with friends. You can “snap” videos, pictures and texts to people that then self destruct once they’ve read them or if you set a specific time. However, you can also share videos, pictures and texts to something called “MyStory” and set it to public so others can view it. This is where the fun starts. MyStory lasts for 24 hours and it really is a rad place to create stories and share interesting content. Most of the people I’ve added on Snapchat are overseas creators. They’re entertaining and aren’t just yattering in to a camera and sharing snaps of them in a club.

The platform is really new in South Africa BUT I’ve found a few South Africans to add on Snapchat. If you’re looking for interesting content and fun stories – these are your girls (and guys).

1. Khaya Dlanga

Why should you add him? He is funny and will make you giggle. He adds some hysterical commentary to usual life situations. A recent favourite snap of his was commentary while driving (yes, a no no) “This guy behind me drives like my granny… and my granny is dead.” I laugh a lot when following Khaya’s story.

I’m going to be honest, when I originally added Bailey I didn’t think I’d enjoy her content. I’m not in to the fashion and beauty blogger thing and thought she might bore me. However, not the case. I deal with the nail varnish snaps because her other content is cute and honest. She is so positive and I love how she shares the good and the bad of her day. She’ll make you smile.

3. Gareth Pon

You probably know Gareth Pon by now – South Africa’s best Instagrammer by far – he also may be our best Snapchatter as well. His eye for great images translates to Snapchat but he is also really entertaining take that banana video as the perfect example. Once a week you’re also guaranteed to see an ice cream snap. The guy is obsessed.

4. Emma Menteath

Emma is a model. So right off the bat, you’re going to love her Snaps if you’re fashion obsessed. She’s also really fun and rad to follow. Bailey pointed me in her direction and I’m glad she did. You’ll love her model journey and you’ll love her food snaps – proof that skinny girls do eat!

Yup, that’s me. I’m working really hard at making fun snaps that make you laugh. You get a behind the scenes look at how Tech Girl operates (my Sunday ten second blog preview is a favourite one of mine to produce), you’ll also get a chance to get a sneak peek at events and the filming for Digital Custard, my YouTube Channel. I also say the things I wouldn’t tweet or post on Facebook…. like my Dion Chang snap where I “fixed” his laptop (he was the main speaker at a Microsoft event but using a Mac – COME ON!).

The one thing I love about many of the overseas Snappers is their artwork that they create in app. I’m yet to see a South African match that skill BUT I think Brett is going to be that guy. Once in a while he snaps a piece of Snapchat art and it is impressive. When he starts selling those as prints and making millions, you’ll wish you’d listened to me when I told you to add him.
