Since 1984, Tetris has bridged every divide imaginable, from age and culture to language and technology. Grandparents who mastered it on early ‘DOS-operated’ computers now watch their grandchildren tackle the same puzzles on smartphones. This multigenerational appeal lies at the heart of Red Bull Tetris®, where seasoned veterans and newcomers alike are discovering that the fundamental joy of fitting pieces together transcends any single platform or era.
With over 520 million copies sold worldwide, Tetris has earned its place as more than ‘just’ a game. Red Bull Tetris® honours this legacy whilst pushing boundaries with innovative power-ups, gravity-shifting mechanics and the game-changing Golden Tetrimino that can transform any round in an instant. Forty-one years after seven simple shapes first captured the world’s imagination, Tetris continues to prove that the best games are truly timeless. Now, as Red Bull Tetris® qualifiers gain momentum across the globe, South African players are discovering they hold something extraordinary in their hands: a direct pathway from their mobile phones to the most spectacular gaming finale ever conceived, a live Tetris match played across the Dubai skyline with over 2 000 synchronised drones. This is the evolution of gaming’s most enduring classic and Mzansi is perfectly positioned to make history.

For South African gamers, this tournament represents something profound: the chance to carry our nation’s colours onto the world’s most ambitious gaming stage. The qualification path is elegantly accessible: Starting with mobile gameplay that anyone can master, progressing through increasingly competitive rounds and culminating in a PC-based National Final that will crown South Africa’s representative. What awaits that champion in Dubai is unprecedented. From December 11-13, 2025, the world’s top Tetris players will converge for three days of immersive experiences, music performances and special guest appearances, all building towards the ultimate moment: a live Tetris game rendered by synchronised drones against the iconic Dubai Frame.
