Where are South African gamers? Where do you find them? How do you reach out to them? It’s a question which gets asked time and time again. There are a host of passionate gamers around the country looking to find like minded individuals to connect and play with. So where the hell are they?
A few months ago I decided to make it my business to put together an exhaustive list of the various discords, social media platforms and whatsapp groups for various game titles around South Africa. I put them together in a helpful Red Bull article which gave a little bit of background in to each game, how to start out if you want to move into a competitive scene or find online play and then shared the various spots to check out.

Counter-Strike 2
Your best and first bet should be FACEIT. Here’s the link.
Valorant
The Valorant ZA Discord is where you want to head.
Fortnite
Fortnite also has a local discord you can join.
Street Fighter
The fighting games community has both a WhatsApp group and Discord Server you can find information on.
EA Sports FC 24
If you’re a FIFA fan there are various WhatsApp groups running at any given time but the current biggest FIFA Tournament Organiser in South Africa is VS Gaming. I’m told for competitions their platforms are usually a good start for communications. You can google those though. I’ve been giving VS free air time for years and I’m loathe to continue until they put the players first.
