Can this website guess your age? Microsoft’s how-old.net

Microsoft has come up with a facial recognition tool that can guess your age, called how-old.net. You upload a photo and it will tell you how old you look. No uploaded pictures are stored, so you can test away. How-old.net came about when developers were testing Microsoft’s new face detection API. They were hoping for 50 responses but got over 35 000. I’ve always thought that I look young for my age, so I decided to put my face to an algorithm backed test.

What now? I am by no means 64! I think this has to do with wearing shades. I do however like Microsoft’s disclaimer “Sorry if we didn’t quite get the age and gender right – we are still improving this feature.”

Much better. And this photo was taken on New Year’s Eve.

So not as young as I was in the previous picture, but much better than 64! I am actually 30 and am quite happy with this website’s final conclusion.

Does it work on animals?

Well not our fury friends, as you can see from the picture below.

But it did work on what is possibly my favourite photo ever, of this monkey that took a selfie. A photographer left his camera out in the forest and when he came to collect it, he found that this monkey had taken loads of selfies. The monkey is apparently 43.
