3 Podcasts to Make You Smarter

We were driving from Chicago to New Jersey. It was about a 13 hour drive. Being the nerds that we are, my friends and I listened to some music for a while, but then got lost in the wonderful world of podcasts. Warren Buffet says he listens to podcasts on the way to work so that he can easily learn something new. I took a leaf out of Mr Buffet’s book and started listening to podcasts to and from work. Here are 3 podcasts to listen to if you want to:

a) sound intelligent

b) learn something and

c) be entertained.

here's the thing podcast1. Here’s The Thing with Alec Baldwin

WHAT: Alec Baldwin interviews famous people. He doesn’t ask the usual questions, but rather has a knack for getting stars to reveal things they usually wouldn’t.

WHY: Learn things about stars that you didn’t know before. It’s interesting to see how they became famous. It’s inspiring.

START HERE: Judd Apatow, Lena Dunham and Fred Armison interviews.

TED radio hour2. The TED Radio Hour

WHAT: We all know and love TED talks, and this podcast doesn’t disappoint. Unlike the TED talk videos, the podcast combines different speakers’ opinions under one theme.

WHY: Bring the awesome from the videos straight into you car. You’ll hear different opinions, which will change your perspective on a few things.

START HERE: Animals & Us and Unstoppable Learning

tim ferris show3. The Tim Ferris Show

WHAT: The human guinea pig, Tim Ferris speaks to his super famous and influential friends while drinking wine.

WHY: You will be exposed to interesting people and sub cultures. It is also very entertaining.

START HERE: at the beginning. All of them are good.

There are 2 ways to listen to podcasts:

  • via iTunes on your laptop/pc/iPhone/iPad
  • on your Android device. I like Podcast Republic.

Aside from learning new stuff, podcasts are a great way to pass the time in traffic.

I'd love to chat to you some more.

I usually send out a weekly mailer with a recap of blog posts but also some personal anecdotes. If you want to know about competitions or just catch up in a more personal setting then you might like to receive the mailer.
