PlayStation 4 Accessory Guide

So we all love smartphones and gadgets here on Tech Girl, but what about the gamer reading this that is like “what about my gaming needs?” Well, there are great accessories that you can get hold of that will benefit your gaming sessions, be it headsets, charging docks, decorative stickers, or just some analogue nubs.

I am here to make your lives easier, because I love you all and want you to go and spend all your hard-earned cash on things you don’t really need.

  • 1 Virtual Surround Sound
  • Wireless (PS4, PS3)
  • Supports 3.5mm cable for other devices
  • Custom sound presets
  • Detachable faceplates

R1299.00 – Raru

Personally my favourite headset I have ever owned. It is so affordable at only R1299.00. It packs quite the feature list too. The headset boasts a 7.1 virtual surround sound that brings the game to your ears and really sounds fantastic. The headset can also be plugged into the PS4 to download sound presets. If you are loving Bloodborne, there is a custom sound preset that was developed just for the headset that utilizes the sound waves and volumes to bring out the most in the game.

The headset is also wireless, and the battery is pretty great at 7-8 hours per charge. I have owned quite a number of headsets in my time, and to put on an official PlayStation branded headset that is damn comfy, affordable, customizable, wireless, and has some pretty neat sound presets, is every PlayStation fan’s dream.

Scuf Controller

R1850 – R2400 – Evopoints

Scuf is amazing, I have only ever had the opportunity to play with them at launches and whatnot, but if I had the cash lying around I would definitely own me a Scuf 4PS Pinky. They are the Dolce and Gabbana of gaming controllers, the Louis Vuitton of accessories. Not only do they look stunning *wipes drool*, their main feature is the extra paddles attached to the controller. These allow for seamless contact as you won’t need to lift your thumb off the analogue to press the X, or O (A, or B) button.

The controller also had some tweaks to its design like the analogue rubber that has more friction, and grips on the controller promise a more solid hold on the controller.

ORB PS4 Thumb Grips

R99.00 – Takelaot

If you don’t have a couple of thousand rands to fork out on a sexy Scuf controller, then this R100 pack of PS4 Thumb Grips will be your saviour. I have already been through two DualShock 4s that’s thanks to their crappy rubber on their analogue. The rubber wears out and tears off after a while revealing the plastic underneath, not only does it interfere with your gaming sessions, it is not ideal given the DualShock 4 is a beautiful design to look as frail and stuffed, really, do not be common.

The ORB Grips are affordable and come with 2 types packaged, one rubber grip set and one rubber grip set that also has 4 extruding dots on them for extra grip.

Graffiti Skin

Graffiti Skins – R500.00

Sure the PlayStation 4 is a beautiful console, but what if you want to mix things up a bit and add in some of your own flair? Well Graffiti Skins is a local company that plan to take over your consoles and make them beautiful. No matter what you are into, you will find a skin that you will love. They are not very pricey either at R499 for both your PS4 and two DualShock 4 reskins with R150 for an additional controller skin.

They have everything from Liverpool to Adventure Time. I would rather take Adventure Time due to my lack of love for soccer. Be sure to check them out in this piece we wrote about them and don’t be scared to add a little personality to your console.

PS4 DualShock 4 Charging Station

R369 – Takealot.com

The only issue I have with the DualShock 4 is the poor battery life. My controller is constantly going flat especially while playing games that have constant vibration like Destiny and Grand Theft Auto V. The thing is you need to have your PS4 on or in Standby mode for it to charge the controllers, which never happens unless I am downloading something in the background overnight.

This charging dock works off an AC adaptor, meaning that you can just pop your controller in it overnight and you are good to go. Goodbye dangling wires from your USB port, and hello full battery freedom.

PlayStation Camera71xEWQSzRoL._SL1500_R797 –  Raru

The PlayStation Camera is a great add on to the PS4. It does more than what you think it does as it supports facial recognition login, voice commands to navigate through your PS4’s UI and in game, and it also has some silent features in many games that you don’t realize until you play them.

It came bundled back when I got my PS4 and as much as I want to say it was a waste, I have found myself using it every now and then. Sure it has some untapped potential that I am sure will be used in the future, but is the only camera for the console so why not kit yourself out now and get it?

PlayStation 4 Vertical Stand

R264 – Raru

Sony have really made us believe that we need the PlayStation 4 Vertical Stand. Thanks to all their advertising, I felt that the PS4 would not be the same without it, and I was right. Not only does the PS4 look better standing up, it also attracts less dust and breaths better than it would laying down. Sure Sony has never actually mentioned these benefits, but I strongly believe that it helps, given that the area touching the surface is less, which results in less heat absorption. I never did science though.
