The last few months have been CRAZY busy with a host of rad tournaments, events and discussions around esports. I like to curate as much as I can so you don’t miss anything. I’ve put together a host of articles I’ve written, rad videos and discussions I’ve been apart of and dropped them below so you can catch up on any esports news you might have missed. A lot of this is specific to Africa right now, as I’m still locked down at home (but with my first Pfizer vaccine out of the way, I should be able to jump on a plane soon!). Take a look at some of the good stuff:
When will LAN events return to South Africa?
First published on Red Bull
I really miss LAN events. It’s been way too long since we’ve all been able to get together and hang out. I decided to chat to some events and tournament organisers to find out when we can expect to return to some sense of “normal”. You can find out what they had to say by clicking here.
South African Superstar | Unfold Thabo (YVNG Savage)
I’ve had the privilege of documenting Thabo “YvngSavage” Moloi’s journey from break out FIFA star to an African icon. Over the years I’ve been able to follow his career and tell a part of his story. Red Bull Gaming dropped the most incredible short documentary covering YvngSavage’s story and it is such an inspirational watch. I also got rather excited to see a few of my photos used in the doccie. I’m by no means a professional photographer so this was really exciting. However, the story is definitely not about me, this is all Thabo and it is incredible to watch. Take a look:
Here is what you can expect from Riders Republic

The closed Beta for Riders Republic happened towards the end of August and I had such a special opportunity to play the Beta and chat to some of the team involved in the game. It wasn’t at all what I expected. I went in not sure if it was a game I’d be interested in playing and it surprised me so much. I wrote down my thoughts and the insights from the developers here.
Let’s get serious about gaming in South Africa
I had a great opportunity to sit down with broadcasting legend Tbo Touch and new talent Thabang Wadikwena to discuss some of the issues facing gamers in South Africa specifically. The episode was a very open conversation around how we actively grown gaming in South Africa, diversity and conversations around some of the challenges faced. You can watch the whole episode here.
Fortnite: South African pros on the growth of the game over the past year
Originally published on Red Bull
Fortnite South Africa gets a pretty bad wrap a lot of the time. However, after desk hosting a recent event I really felt there was more to the story than we see on Twitter. I reached out to some of the top players to have a candid conversation about the growth of the title and to address some of the bad stuff that tends to find its way to social media on the regular. The whole piece can be read here.
What to keep in mind when buying a Gaming PC
This one is pretty self explanatory. I’ve been working with Incredible Connection on some of the All Star Gaming esports events. They asked me to put together a video explaining the main things to keep in mind when building your first custom gaming PC. We kept it short and simple. I really like how the video came out and hopefully it can help some new PC buyers!
Find out what it takes to be a successful South African streamer

My friend Rachel Kay has done the most with her streams. They’re fun to watch and always entertaining. She’s also been able to turn streaming into a full time career. I interviewed her to find out what it takes to be a full time streamer in a smaller region like South Africa. The full interview is on Red Bull.
