This post was written in collaboration with Logitech G
I’ve been testing out a new headset during the past few weeks and you’ve likely seen it if you watch my streams. It’s the Logitech G G733 and I thought I’d share my experience with the headset. I’m partnered with Logitech G because I love their peripherals and quality promise. However, I’ll be honest in my feedback here.
First impressions
The Logitech G G733 headset comes in a range of colours, like LOTS. Though in South Africa you can get the classic black or white. I was given the white to try out and I was a bit concerned. White peripherals are always a ball ache, they tend to pick up and hold dirt or get that weird yellow tinge. These are a white plastic which I found really easy to wipe down with a damp cloth. They didn’t pick up as much dirt as I thought. The outer covering on the cans and headset are a rough plastic while a smooth shiny plastic (which is where fingerprints tend to live) surrounds the outside of the cups. The choice to go with a matte finish, with the white colouring, also helps with ensuring the headset looks less “smudgy” when you’re using it a lot.
The fabric cans are a light grey material that is soft and breathable. The headband has an elastic type band to ensure they sit comfortably on your head. The band on mine with a mix of purple, pink and turquoise colouring which I loved! The pop of colour made this headset fun and feminine – which I liked.
Sound quality and what nots
The G733 headset comes with a removable mic (which I haven’t used, just FYI) and rad RGB colour strips in the front which you can customise to your liking. I liked the lights. The headset has PRO G drivers which means you get the full range crisp sound I’ve come to expect from Logitech G. Here’s the serious stats:
- Next-gen DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound
- Blue VO!CE
- “Discord certified audio”
Basically, TLDR the sound quality is good. It’s decent for FPS games with clear footstep and directional sound. I’ve used them during a work day too to listen to music and found them satisfactory. It’s not as immersive as the Pro X headset, in my opinion, but I think the G733 aren’t aiming for top of the range esports ready – but rather the ideal offering for casual gaming and every day use.
WIRELESS!
My headset of choice, the Logitech G Pro X, is wired. There is a wireless option, but I currently don’t have it. Honestly, the wires drive me mad. I’m a bit of a busy body during the day and in between rounds while playing. I find the wired connection restrictive. The G733 is completely wireless which I LOVE. The freedom to move makes me happy. Weird one, I know, but I really like that these aren’t limited. Distance wise, I can get about 10 metres away from my PC (through walls, doors etc) and walk around my apartment before I lose signal and sound. The Wireless connection is done via USB and these aren’t Bluetooth, which I kind of don’t love. I’d have preferred a Bluetooth option too, so I could link them to my phone, but I’m being SUPER picky now.
Final thoughts (and one or two gripes)
The G733 headset is super light and comfy. It feels more breathable than the Pro X headset so I prefer it for my more casual playing and daily music listening while I work. I do think the cans are a bit big for my head shape, but the over ear style, which I like, combined with a bit more comfort and space requires a chunkier size. So I get it. My biggest gripe though is battery. I do find that I need to charge them every second day. I get about 8 to 9 hours battery life out of them before they need to be charged again – I’d have preferred a longer battery life. But again, for many this won’t be an issue.
They’re rad and funky. You can also use them with older gen consoles like the Playstation 4 (though some features won’t work). They’re priced at R1999 which I definitely think is a fair price for them. Overall, I’ve found myself in the G733 more than the Pro X purely because of the wireless option. For now, I’m digging that. Though it has also made me realise that a wireless Pro X headset would basically be my dream…. so there’s that! Hell, if they threw in some RGB lighting effects I’d probably never use another headset. If you want to buy your own Logitech G G733 headset, they’re available in South Africa at almost all good gaming stores online.
Disclosure: I am partnered with Logitech G in South Africa so do get to test out many of their products and keep them.
