As we come to the end of the year, it is time to reflect on the year that was. Yesterday a friend and I were chatting and he said that “2019 was an honest year” and I immediately said I’m going to use that. 2019 was a lot of things and quite tough for most, but if anything it was honest. And in keeping with that theme, here’s an honest list of the apps that people loved.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be bringing you lists of all the best apps, videos, music, etc. of 2019.

Best Android Apps 2019
Every year Google releases a list of the most popular apps on the Play Store. I quickly scrolled down the list and found the best app for 2019 is Ablo. And I was like WTF is Ablo. I hadn’t even heard of it. And if like me, you are clueless, then read on.
Best App 2019: Ablo
Ablo allows you to talk to new people from all over the world but allows you to write and talk in your own language because it translates your chats and video calls live. So now you can learn to ablo Espanol or any other language. I haven’t tried it myself, but am keen to improve Chinese, so will give it a shot and let you know how it goes.
Best App User’s Choice 2019: Video Edit Glitch
Another app I haven’t used yet, but will do so soon. I think our Manchester United Christmas tree would look good using some of these effects (ps. I am not a soccer fan but my boyfriend is. His Manchester United Christmas hat is at the top of our tree. I like to wind him up by calling it a Manchester City hat).
Best Game 2019: Call of Duty Mobile
I know this game is sometimes called COD and that’s about it. If you want to know more then ask Sam or Chani. On a side note, yesterday they launched an esports and gaming newsletter that focuses on the SA esports scene, which you can sign up for here.
Best-selling ebooks & audiobooks on Google Play 2019
You can read the review of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck here.
Best Apple Apps 2019
I don’t really use Apple products that much – I have an iPad I sometimes use and a really old Mac with all of my photos on – but those that do are true fans. Apple released their best apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac and AppleTV, and you can see them all here.
Best iPhone App 2019: Spectre Camera
This AI-powered app allows you to take amazing long-exposure photos. It will cost you $2.99 (R44).
Best iPhone Game 2019: Sky: Children of the Light
It’s a ground-breaking social adventure that is set to warm your hearts. It’s a beautifully-animated kingdom waiting to be explored by you and your loved ones.
