If you frequent this blog (and let’s face it, you really should) then you’ll already have seen the first of four E3 posts that I wrote, basically just being a complete fangirl about all the games that I want to play with my friends, and then sharing that love with all of you, my friends. If you haven’t see the post yet then you can click here and we’ll just all pretend that you had read it from the start.
Just to play catch up quick, the annual E3 Convention happened recently, which is basically like the Oscars, for video games.
Also it’s actually nothing like the Oscars but it’s really awesome and great new games get announced – so I feel like you should let me have this one.
Anyway, moving on, there were a LOT of games that I felt you should know about and instead of just dumping them all on you at once and drowning you with words and trailers I separated them all into four articles consisting of 10 games each, and this is the second one:
Games To Play If You Want To Lose Yourself In Another World
Death Stranding
PS4 – Single-Player and Multiplayer
If you know me then you’ll know that I was obsessed with the Silent Hill games. I still consider them to be absolute treasures. Death Stranding is an upcoming game by the same guy who created Silent Hill and it promises to take everything I loved from the games and improve them. It’s an open world game where you take control of a man named Sam, the characters in the game are voiced and modelled by actors including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Lindsay Wagner and director Guillermo del Toro. And that is all we know so far, EMBRACE THE MYSTERY!
Spider-Man
PS4 – Single-Player
When I wrote the first E3 post I spoke about how excited my partner got when they announced a new remake of BattleToads and then how disappointed he got when he realized I had never played it. Well, this is another game like that! I love superhero movies and I’m addicted to comics but I’ve never ever played any superhero themed game, and according to my partner I should now be a disgraced gamer because they are really great games and I know nothing about anything. Spider-Man follows, as you would expect, the life and times of Peter Parker. Without spoiling anything: this particular ‘universe’ doesn’t tie into the comics or the movies. In the game Peter is about to graduate from college and has already been Spider-Man for eight years. It’s an open world game that lets you spider around a modern-day New York City being the hero you’ve always wanted to be.
Days Gone
PS4 – Single-Player
If I had to choose only one type of game to play until I died it would probably have to be a survival type game. I think it’s because I am pretty much awful at any real-world survival skills, so playing survival games, where I’m not awful lets me feel all super powerful and almost indestructible. My favorite of all the survival settings is definitely ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ it’s just the right level of exciting and thrilling and it gives me the tools to be a total badass. Days Gone is a survival horror game set two years after the zombie outbreak that wiped out almost all of humanity. You take control of Deacon, an outlaw turned bounty hunter who prefers life on the open road to staying locked up in a survival camp. The game is open world and story-driven, so expect a lot of exploring, zombie killing and a lot of emotional cut scenes to tie it all together.
Last of Us 2
PS4 – Single-Player and Multiplayer
I’m not going to say too much about this game, I feel like I’ve already done that in this blog post. But if you don’t feel like reading an entire post of me just drooling about it, here is the summary: In the first Last of Us game you took control of Joel and a lot of the story focused around the concept of love, this time around you take control of a now ‘grownup’ Ellie and the game’s main focus is the concept of hate. There is a single and multiplayer and you can expect a world even more beautifully detailed than the first game gave us. You all caught up? no? Go read the linked article and you will be.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
PC; Xbox One; PS4 – Single-Player
You know how sometimes you will see something new come out and just have this moment where you think to yourself: How has this not always existed? How did it take so long? Well, that is exactly how I felt when I watched the trailer for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. It’s the 20th game in the series and the first one to be set in ancient Rome, and never has something just felt more right. It’s an Assassin’s Creed game like no other. You start off choosing to play as Alexios or Kassandra and the game focuses more on the role-playing aspect than previous titles. You can choose to develop romantic relationships with NPCs of both genders, regardless of who you are playing, there is a notoriety system that will cause mercenaries to chase after you if you are caught stealing from NPCs or killing them, and there is a giant skill tree that allows you to create the assassin that best suits you. There are also multiple endings depending on the choices you make while playing, something that I can’t wait to experience.
Cyberpunk 2077
PC; Xbox One; PS4 – Single-Player
This is probably the game from E3 that generated the most noise online, everyone at home that just got to watch the trailer fell in love and everyone at E3 that got to actually play some of the game fell even further in love. Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming role-playing game, and if you’re a Table Top gamer like me, you should instantly recognise it as being adapted from Cyberpunk 2020 – an amazing game in its own right. This is a very big, bold and ambitious game. You take on the role of a fully customisable mercenary, V. You can choose V’s gender, hair, body, clothes, body type etc. and all of these choices will alter how NPCs react to you and how your interactions go. You can also choose to have romantic and sexual relationships with the NPCs, you can buy apartments, furnish them and build your mercenary to fit within your chosen play style. There is also an interesting language aspect to the game, it features a lot of non-English speaking NPCs and if you don’t understand the language that they are speaking to you in, you can buy translator implants to try to better understand them. It looks amazing, it sounds amazing, and I definitely feel like this can be a turning point in ‘open world’ style games if they pull this off.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
PC; Xbox One; PS4 – Single-Player
This is one of the titles on my list that I don’t think needs any explaining. We already know everything we need to: It’s Tomb Raider and therefore it will be awesome. Done. But for those of you who aren’t as easily convinced: Shadow of the Tomb Raider takes place almost directly after Rise of the Tomb Raider ended. You, Lara Croft, head off on an expedition to Latin America in search of a Mayan relic that you believe will answer questions about your father. One thing leads to another and you end up setting off the Mayan apocalypse and it’s now up to you to save the world.
Control
PC; Xbox One; PS4 – Single-Player and Multiplayer
The trailer for Control speaks to me, it doesn’t say a lot, but it definitely speaks to me. You take on the role of Jesse Faden who has just become the new director of the Federal Bureau of Control. Something has corrupted the other members of the Bureau and is disrupting reality around you, and you need to fight to make it out alive. Are you as intrigued as I am?
Call of Cathulhu
PC; Xbox One; PS4 – Single-Player
One of the things that I love to do with friends when we aren’t playing games is to get us all together at someone’s house and take out some Table Top games. This is something we do quite regularly. One of these Table Top games that has brought us an unspeakable amount of joy together was a game based on H.P Lovecraft stories and it’s a game called The Call of Cthulhu… which is what this upcoming game is an adaption of. You take control of Edward Pierce, a privet investigator who is looking into the mysterious death of an entire family. This is a survival horror game that looks like it will be the perfect fit for traditional gamers looking to move into the digital realm or to encourage any console/pc gamer to put down their controller and pick up a traditional game with some friends.
Sea of Solitude
PC – Single-player
This is one of the games on this list that doesn’t really have a lot of information released about it yet. Here’s what we do know: it’s an adventure game where you take control of a girl/monster named Kay, you are exploring an abandoned city (fun fact: the city is actually based on Berlin) to find answers about the world and about yourself. We also know that the games art style looks beautiful.
Now that you’ve seen my top 10 games that I just can’t wait to completely lose myself in, what do you think?
Are you as in love with them as I am? Did I miss one of your favourites? Let me know in the comments below.
