Despite their rather clunky size I’m some what in love with my Razer Man O War headset. It has incredible sound quality, is wireless and is all I really need (I do wish it wasn’t so clunky though but still). I was recently at the Razer offices when the Razer Electra V2 USB headset arrived back. It was a review unit and not scheduled to go out again so I asked if I could take them for a spin. Mainly because I liked the look of them with the rectangular cups and less bulky design.
Which is why I’ve had a new headset on for a few weeks
The Razer Electra V2 USB Gaming headset costs R1099. They’re far more affordable than the Man O Wars and ever so slightly cheaper than the Krakens (which are sill my ultimate favs). The shape of the ear cups is somewhat different and they aren’t wireless. However, they have an incredibly well designed aluminium frame making them extremely light on my head. I actually liked the rectangular shaped over ear cups and found the headset to be extremely comfy.
You don’t get colour choices with these babies. They’re black with the famous Razer green. That’s it. But they still look pretty sleek and I like how the green design offsets against the black. There’s a 40mm driver and the headset offers up 7.1 Surround Sound.
Nitty gritty things
The headset has a removable mic and the USB connection offers up multi platform compatibility. You’ll be able to use the Electra on your PC, Mac and even your PS4. That’s a plus in my books. The sound quality is good. It isn’t blow me away special but it is decent. It is also extremely balanced and does the job.
For the price, these are rad. They’re sexy, they sound good and they have a far more premium build quality than similar brands in the same price range BUT I’d still save the extra few hundred rands up and go buy Krakens. Personal preference really. If, however, you want to be a bit different to the rest of the Razer crew then these are a decent purchase.
Disclosure: I am the South African Razer brand ambassador. The Electra V2 USB headset was not given to me to keep though and will be returned now that the review has gone up.
