I love the fashion industry because it tends to be the first to adopt new tech into trends that we see walking the runway. I’ve harped on about this before and it is the very reason why I have an entire section on the blog dedicated to fashion and beauty. However, it does take a bit of time before we see these trends finding their way to the mainstream stores. However, in the last few weeks I’ve seen a few tech clothing trends pop up on the shelves and I wanted to share them with you. I love all four of these and I’d love to hear your fav in the comments at the bottom of this post.
Okay, I know you don’t want to read any more ramblings. Here are the 4 tech clothing trends I desperately need to get my hands on (and I’m pretty sure you’ll feel the same!):
The Blue Crane Hoodie
A few months ago I found this gorgeous lace top from Youneek. It turns out this isn’t the only rad piece of clothing the team are putting together. They also have the Blue Crane Hoodie which has recently launched on Kickstarter. The hoodie is so rad because it can actually fold up into a bag! It is a rad hoodie with a host of essential pockets and zips. There is space to include a tablet, phone and even headphones. In fact this hoodie is the best piece of clothing for a geek girl on the go. Here’s what it includes:
- Bottle opener zipper
- waterproof drinks pocket (yup it holds a bottle of water)
- thumbhole cuffs
- wrist wallet pocket
- passport pocket
- sunglasses holder
- built in microfibre cloth
- front zip kangaroo pocket
- hand warming kangaroo pocket
- waterproof cellphone pocket
- large iPad pocket
- tangle free earbuds hole
Those are the features as a hoodie but it is even better because it folds up into a travel bag or soft pillow. How amazing? You can order one on Kickstarter here but they will go into production afterwards if you don’t have the cash now. It costs around R700 on Kickstarter now. WANT.
#ShoeBooster
This is such a cool initiative from Discover Vitality to get your hands on the best sneakers on the market that I had to add it as one of my tech clothing trends. It is so clever: as part of your Vitality Active Rewards you can get cash back on your running and gym shoe purchases. Pretty simple really, download the latest version of the Discovery app, activate HealthyGear and then compete a Vitality Age and Fitness Assessment. You’ll immediately get 25% cash back on any purchases from Sportsmans Warehouse. You can take it a step forward (see what I did there) by activating Shoe Booster in the app. You’ll be charged a once off fee of R300 but get an 2017 Team Vitality Running membership in return. Then go buy your new shoes at Sportsmans Warehouse and, depending on how many of your fitness goals you meet in app, you’ll get up to 75% cash back off the price of those new shoes.
Considering the price of sneakers this is a goodie. If you’re a Discovery Vitality member and want to find out more you can.
This Converse Essentials Backpack
I’m in love with Converse, if you didn’t know that already. This backpack is being added to my must have list and I love the tech influences added to it. It has a Neoprene lined backside laptop sleeve (winning) and also has an inner scratch resistant media pouch which is great for cellphones and small cameras. The front pocket is also water resistant. There is also a grab handle on the top and side of the bag. So this one is ideal if you’re on the go a lot and need to carry ALL THE GADGETS with you (like me!).
Geeky Earrings
This isn’t new. I’ve had gorgeous geeky earrings in the Tech Girl shop for yonks. But these new designs are the best and I love the geeky tech trends finding their way into jewellery. My two must haves at the moment are the Wonder Woman inspired Earrings because the movie is just around the corner as well as the Rogue One earrings. Any Star Wars obsessed girl MUST HAVE THESE. Both designs are available here on Tech Girl for R300 so definitely worth the splurge.
Do you have a favourite tech trend finding its way into clothing? Let me know, I’m always looking for new inspiration!
