Matissa: a new app that turns your photos into art

Get your selfie sticks ready as it is almost time for the summer holidays. It’s time to soak up the sun and post a million selfies. And just before you start to wonder what filter to use (Valencia makes you look really tanned), in comes an app that turns your photos into art. Say hello to Matissa.

Photos that have got moves like Jagger

There are two categories of filters, the usual and dynamic. The Dynamic filters are way better because it transform photos into Harry Potter-esque photos (aka gifs). But with great functionality comes a great file size – just over 2MB per image.

We look like we are standing over a fire.

But is it art?

Turn any photo into a work of art. With over 40 styles (more are added weekly), you will never run out of options. A rendition takes a few seconds, and for some reason on my phone it seemed to take a bit longer than 2.5 seconds – which could just be due to a bad internet connection. On average it took about 5 seconds.

Can you guess the different song lyrics based on our outfits? Answers below.

Shake and Bake

With over 40 filters, sometimes it is difficult to choose one. The shake feature randomly applies a filter when you shake your phone. I won’t lie this is a pretty cool feature.

Other important stuff

  • New renditions are added every week, so you’ll never get bored of the filters.
  • You can take new photos or use existing ones in your gallery.
  • It’s annoying when you try and use a feature and only then do they let you know that you have to pay. This is not the case with Matissa. It is free (with ads).
  • Easily share your works of art via any social network, which let’s be honest is the main reason why you took that picture of your  breakfast this morning.

Matissa is available for free on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

I'd love to chat to you some more.

I usually send out a weekly mailer with a recap of blog posts but also some personal anecdotes. If you want to know about competitions or just catch up in a more personal setting then you might like to receive the mailer.
