The Starfish Greathearts Foundation

An interactive ebook app that benefits the Starfish Greathearts Foundation

One of the things I’ll always remember growing up was that my parents never said no to a book. We were lucky kids and while we weren’t spoilt with toys we were always spoilt with books. If we were at the local CNA and asked for a new novel there was never a No to be heard. My folks gifted us with the best present – a love for reading. My obsession included reading the back of cereal boxes at breakfast!

I sometimes wonder how much more I’d have been able to read if ebooks had been around then.

The Starfish Greathearts Foundation

There is something beautiful about a well written story and more so when you can relate to the story. Which is why The Starfish Story immediately appealed to me. It has a rich African flavour. More so it is an interactive ebook app which means that not only can you have the story read to you but you can also choose to interact with the story and enjoy lighting effects, characters that animate with a simple click or when your device is moved or hugged.

The ability to climb in to the narrative is charming and the incredible design elements will engage and inspire. As a stand alone app it is something special to behold. However, The Starfish Story is a little bit more than a whimsical tale. For every download of the app the proceeds ($9.99 – so a little over R100) go to The Starfish Greathearts Foundation – a charity that assists more than 12 000 orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa.

Give to get

The Starfish Greathearts Foundation

I love this concept so much – the idea of giving a little bit to get something special. Before I could read I remember my dad reading to us in the evening. We had a book of Greek Mythology and we loved the tales of Jason and the Golden Fleece and Icarus flying too close to the sun. They have been etched in my mind since those younger years and I imagine The Starfish Story will hold the same sweet spot for a whole new generation of little ones growing up in a digital world.

While created for kids, even adults will enjoy this one – so head on over to the Apple Store and buy it. You can thank me for the warm and fuzzies you’ll feel by sharing this post and the app with your friends. Every download helps someone who needs it!

I'd love to chat to you some more.
