What we think you should know:

HP Star Wars Laptop

I’m a huge fan of Star Wars. It’s a given. I’ve done enough Star Wars content on this blog for you to know that by now. When the HP Star Wars Laptop arrived for me to play with I got extremely excited. It is something rather spectacular. The design itself feeds to every Star Wars fan. I love the design elements and funky detail. The packaging is even designed to replicate TIE Fighters. It’s rather incredible!

The design is everything.

I’m in love with the battle type finishing and red lighting behind the keyboard. It makes you feel like a complete bad ass when you switch the notebook on. There’s a few other funky features as well once you switch the laptop on. The incredible 15″ display and high definition imaging means you’ve got a crisp visual on screen. Great to watch the various Star Wars trailers and gorgeous photography from past features (all included on the laptop). There are a selection of Star Wars screensavers that will make you want to do less work and rather leave your laptop to idle. They’re incredible to watch. There are also a host of Star Wars sounds that are incorporated in to your activities. So forget swishes or crumpling paper when you empty recycling bins and the like. Light Sabres connecting with one another as a sound notification are rather fun… for awhile.

But….

For Star Wars fans around the world this is going to feed their inner geek. But let’s be completely honest – who has R13k to drop on a laptop just because it has some cool images, a funky design and fun sound effects? The laptop is decent. The display is incredible and I really found it useful when watching YouTube vids in HD or streaming my favourite series. The battery life is almost Macbook impressive and I enjoyed the Star Wars funk added in. But I’m still on the fence if I’d want to drop that price tag on the laptop.

The truth is, funky screensavers can be downloaded, wicked cool design can be replicated with Star Wars skins or stickers and, for the most part, I’m really just not sure it is enough. It is pretty clear HP let a Star Wars fan build their ultimate laptop but that fan was far more design focused and less function focused.

Is it cool to play with? Hell yeah.

Would I buy it? No.

So rad:

  • ALL. THE. STAR. WARS.
  • The battery life is impressive

Makes us sad:

  • Design isn’t always enough. TIE Fighter function might have been needed to send this one in to the next galaxy.

Disclaimer: This was a review unit. We watched the latest season of Suits and then we sent it back.
