The Telkom Unlimited Movie Marathon kicks off this week and will be running from the 9th to the 13th of December at the Sheds at 1Fox in Johannesburg. Telkom is attempting to break the current unlimited movie marathon GUINESS WORLD RECORD. The record was held by Suresh Joachim in around 2008 and last year the winner watched 120 hours and 23 minutes of movies in one sitting (yup, that’s roughly 5 days). Telkom has invited a bunch of South Africans to attempt to break the record and Joachim will also be in the country to try break his current record.
I’m sure you’re wondering what movies and world records have to do with Telkom?
Well Telkom wants to put their Boltspeed fibre technology to the test. This will be the first time the record with be attempted with streaming movies. There’s a lot of pressure on Telkom to ensure their fibre delivers and GUINESS WORLD RECORD adjudicators will be on stand by to ensure the requirements for the attempt are met. This means the movies can’t lag and that fibre line cannot fail.
Can you imagine watching more than 80 movies in one sitting?
I decided that if I was attempting to break the record I’d need to be watching movies I loved. So I started making a list of the 80 that would need to be streamed:
- The Silver Linings Playbook
- Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
- Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
- Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
- Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi
- X-Men
- X2
- X-Men First Class
- The Lion King
- All the Harry Potter movies….
- All the Lord of the Rings movies
- True Lies
By number 11 I was struggling. The thought of sitting through all these movies one after the other is pretty exhausting. I’m also sure you’ll have popcorn overdose by number 3. So I’ll be interested to see if those attempting to break the records actually get it done.
Side note: please note how I utilised the machete order for Star Wars. An order I recently found out about and find rather brilliant. I’ll never watch the films in any other sequence again.
For R30 you can you join the Telkom Unlimited Movie Marathon this week. You’ll be able to see the contestants as they try to watch the films and you’ll get to watch some movies yourself. The full ticket price is also being donated to Lifeline which I full endorse. You can find out more information about the marathon and Lifeline here.
I stopped adding my favourite movies to the list but I’d love to complete it anyway. What movies would you want added to a movie marathon? Share them in the comments below.
