Tech things to do in the holidays

School is out soon (well, for the Matrics, school is already long forgotten!) and pretty soon we’ll all be switching off our alarm clocks and sleeping in a little, thanks to the ticking over of our calendars. Do you need some things to do in the holidays? Vacation time is meant for making memories and sharing stories, so here are our favourite ways to do just that, using tech, of course:

Go a little retro

I have to admit to being a little bit obsessed with this camera. It prints credit-card sized prints instantly and comes in a variety of colours, from pastel pink to sunflower yellow. I am half-wishing for one to appear under my tree this year. Anyway, these Fujifilm Instax Mini cameras are great little tools for snapping up those holiday memories so pop one into your shopping cart before heading out for a sunny day at the beach.

How to use Snapchat

Snapchat

If there’s one big app story to have come out of 2015, it’s bound to be Snapchat. Of course, Tech Girl has done a Snapchat 101 story for you, so I don’t need to tell you how it works, but beyond the app itself, you’re snapping little movie snippets from your holidays. Pop those altogether and you can make a great little family holiday video to remember special days by. Popular health and lifestyle blogger, GI Jane does this on her YouTube channel.

Nifty250 strips

Ask anyone who uses Instagram in South Africa and they’ll tell you – Nifty250 is the best way to get your pictures printed! Simply upload your pictures, directly from your Instagram account and select the images you’d like delivered as prints to your door. They’ve also just opened up a sister business, Kraftisan, which creates minimalist interior goods – great for gift shopping if you need it!

And while you’re snapping those stories, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying being ‘off the clock’, don’t forget to just enjoy the silly season. It only comes round once a year, so we’d better make the most of it!

I'd love to chat to you some more.

I usually send out a weekly mailer with a recap of blog posts but also some personal anecdotes. If you want to know about competitions or just catch up in a more personal setting then you might like to receive the mailer.
