I know. We spend a lot of time bitching about data costs, bad customer service and a lack of signal. It’s a rant we all have. But sometimes your cellphone network gets it right.
Last summer I had a date with Vodacom. Not an excited butterflies in my tummy first date, but one of those weird “let’s talk” dates. It went something like this:
I decided it was time to end my contract and make the move to pre-paid. I had sleepless nights. The fear of having to go into a Vodacom store (I’m with Vodacom) and deal with a consultant who I was sure would vehemently deny me the right to end our arrrangement. Worse still, what if they told me it was cancelled and it wasn’t and I spent the next 4 or 5 months fighting before writing off the money.
Surprisingly my Vodacom experience was nothing like you’d expect from a cellular provider. I went to the Meyersdal Mall Vodacom Cellphone Shop. Despite it being pretty packed they helped me straight away. I announced I wanted to move over to prepaid rather than renew the contract and then I braced myself for all the ifs ands and buts. Nothing. The Vodacom gent behind the counter was great. Spoke me through the whole process, clicked a few buttons and told me the next day I’d get a notification that the move had been made.
I skipped (well sort of) out of the store and then next day…. no text message. Right, I thought. Here we go. Bracing myself for a long ‘on hold’ wait and some sort of fight I rung the call centre. There was still a bit of an ‘on hold’ wait but once I got hold of an agent they apologised prefusely hit a few keyboard buttons on their side and boom, I was moved over to prepaid.
Easy as.
I know not everyone is as lucky but, I spend so much time moaning about bad service it seemed it was about time I gave out a compliment where it was due.
The point of my story? Last summer Vodacom made me happy and this summer? Well let’s just say I’m not the only one getting a little summer lovin’ from my cellphone network.
South Africa’s Fastest Mobile Network has decided to share the positive vibes that summer brings with all of us.
