One of the major benefits of my Sony Xperia Z2 tablet is that it is weighs less than 500 grams and is only about 7mm wide. This is the ideal device to travel with because it is so light and easy to carry around. With the 10.1″ display you’ve got this fantastic viewing device that doesn’t break your back.
When it comes to being in transit, small really is the business. My laptop is smaller than my tablet so that must tell you something! I’m a huge fan of reading but carting a host of books around is close to impossible. For starters, they take up way too much space in your bags (and you need that space for shopping!) and you can only take one or two in a back pack or hand luggage – which limits your reading needs. I’ve started loading my favourite books on to my Sony Xperia Z2 tablet. You can alter the brightness of the screen so it doesn’t start burning your eyes after staring at the screen for too long. You can also download the Kindle app for the tablet which means you have the complete functionality of a Kindle on your tablet. This limits the amount of gadgets you need to cart around – all that shopping space!
Talking about shopping, while I’m not adverse to blowing a small fortune on my reading material sometimes a free read is more than welcome. I’ve found 3 resources to download free books online. So if you’ve just maxed out your credit card on Converse overseas (me!) or are just trying to save a few rands – these are for you:
1. Kindle
Download the Kindle app for your tablet and log in. Once you’ve done that head on over to the Kindle store and in the search bar type “free”. You’ll be provided with a host of books currently on special or free for download. You’ll be amazed at the various offerings available, especially some of the great classics.
2. EBooks
The Free EBooks site is a great resource to download free books online. It is choker block full of thousands of ebooks on a host of subjects from religion and politics to erotica and works of fiction. All the ebooks can be downloaded for free. There are also a host of magazines available and you even write and upload your own ebook!
3. Read Any Book
Read Any Book has some of the best sellers loaded up on their website. If it has hit the best seller list in the last few years it is on the site and can be read. There are a few issues I have with this, for starters I do worry about the legalities of reading these books online for free. Also, when traveling this particular site may not be ideal as you have to read the books online and I can only imagine that the data costs will be through the roof.
