Proudly South African earphones & headphones? Believe it!

I am a music lover and I need to replace my earphones often. Anyone with a similar affliction will tell you the same thing – it’s an expensive habit. I’m sure ‘normal’ people get years of use out of their earphones, not me. Mine are put through their paces on a daily basis; they are my most constant companion. They go from my handbag to my gym bag, being twisted and tangled in to impossible knots. Seriously? How do they get knotted that way? It’s a gym workout in its own to sort it out. But I digress. I use my earphones every single day; at work, gym, when I’m shopping by myself and just relaxing at home at times. I lose one of the earbuds (those silicone things) on a regular basis and guess what? You can’t buy them separately. Most brands include an extra set, but not the same size as the ones on the earphones already. They’re smaller and to be honest, don’t do much in the way of blocking out the noise nor are they comfortable. The only thing to do is buy a new pair. That’s easily R300 – R400 I fork out at a time. It gets expensive! But I have to give it to the brands, a fool proof scheme to get people to buy more earphones.

Until now.

Rocka to the rescue. I can’t believe I didn’t know about Rocka before. This new earphones and headphones brand launched in South Arica at the end of 2013 (I am so behind the times). Another bonus? These are proudly South African earphones & headphones. I’d much rather buy local products if I have the choice. Rocka recognised the need for affordable, quality head / earphones locally. They have five official brand ambassadors namely, Danny K, DJ Zinhle, Khuli Chana, DJ Tiran and Mi Casa. Euphonik was added as a sixth ambassador in October. Each of these artists has headphones or earphones that reflect their personalities. We’re told that they were all involved in the design process and Rocka sorted out the sound in accordance with their preference afterwards.

I have the pink DJ Zinhle earphones and I am impressed. They are designed to fit my ears perfectly to block out almost everything going on around me; they’re waterproof and sweat resistant. I often run them under water to give them a quick rinse. Best part? They come standard with extra silicone earbuds, in more than one size. The earphones cost R149.99 per pair. I don’t have to replace my earphones when I lose one bud any more, even though it is much more affordable to do so. Murphy’s law, I haven’t lost an earbud as yet.

I'd love to chat to you some more.
