Every parent has heard their little one utter the words “I’m bored” and most parents have had a few grey hairs pop up trying to plan fun outings for the whole family during school holidays or over the long weekends.
A new locally developed app is making life a whole lot easier and saving you a large amount of time usually spent googling events and activities in and around Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. I’m Bored the family-friendly-fun-finder app lists events, holiday activities and services in your area that will keep you and the little ones entertained. It’s available for download via the Google Play Store, can be accessed via the website http://www.imbored.co.za or the Facebook page. Within the next three months there will be an iOS app as well. The apps are kid friendly as well if your son or daughter is iPad savvy. If you are hosting an event and want to promote it, I’m Bored offers a free listing option as well.
While the app is rather rad, the story behind it is even more so. Lorraine Steyn, former founder and director of KRS Developments, a leading software development organisation, paired up with her 11 year old son Aidan to develop the app.
During a 10 month sabbatical in 2013, Lorraine and Aidan worked on the app while communicating remotely with her development team back in South Africa. Who doesn’t love the idea of a child parent partnership that makes the saying “I’m Bored” a thing of the past?
