An all wood MacBook skin

I recently recorded a gadget haul for my YouTube Channel (you can watch that video by clicking here, it will open in a separate window for you to check out once you’re done reading this post) and in it I complained about how I struggled to find a protective cover for my MacBook Pro. I ended up having to settle for a lovely, albeit plain, one from the iStore.

Enter Houdt.

Houdt has these incredible wooden headphones which I actually had (but then in an incredibly stupid move gifted to a now ex-boyfriend and will regret for all of eternity). They followed the headphones up with phone covers and hipsters around Cape Town rejoiced. Houdt has added to their range with really sexy wooden laptop skins specifically designed for MacBooks. I have a MacBook Pro with retina display which is why I struggled so much to find a cover (most don’t support the retina display versions), so the new Houdt offering is ideal!

The new skin range come in 3 wood variants: Bamboo, Cherrywood and Walnut. I have a Bamboo skin on my MacBook right now and it even has a Bamboo texture which is really funky and looks awesome.

The skins are easy enough to put on your MacBook. They arrive as a sticker adhesive and then you stick on. I’ve yet to peal it off but I’m presuming when I eventually do (if I do) it shouldn’t leave an ugly residue. The idea behind the cover is to protect the laptop from your usual bumps. scratches and spills. When it arrived in the packaging I was a bit apprehensive about how much protection it could actually offer but I’ve had it on my notebook for a few days now and it definitely has a protective offering and is thicker than it seems without protruding off the cover too much – which I really like.

Finally a funky skin!

The skins are available for MacBooks with or without Retina display in 11″, 12″, 13″ and 15″ sizes. The most exciting bit though is that very soon you’ll be able to add custom engravings to the skins which I think is going to be so funky. My creative side is already itching to try design something! They cost R499 (I paid over a grand for my original cover) and are available on Houdt’s Website or at iFix stores.

Disclaimer: I was gifted with a Houdt MacBook Pro skin following my gadget haul video.
