Timehop app – Get back in touch with the younger (dumber) version of you

Here’s an app that I find really interesting. One thing that we don’t do enough of is reminisce. We rush through our days, always planning the future (even if that means what we’re cooking for dinner later) and don’t take the time to appreciate where we are now and what we’ve been through to get here.

The Timehop app goes back in time every day and shows you snippets of what you posted to selected social media platforms that day in the past year or 2 years or 3 years… you get our drift.

What we think you should know

You’ll get a notification every day that your Timehop is ready to view. You scroll through and laugh at yourself, reminisce about a past love, remember a crazy friendship and all the mad things you’ve done in your life. It just takes a bit of setup time and then you don’t need to touch it again. You can share your Timehop app photos to your social media platforms too and have others reminisce with you.

Here’s some of my Facebook hops in my Timehop today. Don’t judge Past Candice – she was a little bit more ridiculous than Present Candice.

You can also get interesting news pieces from the past:

So rad:

  • The concept of visiting your past social media self. Makes for easy #ThrowbackThursday posts!
  • The ability to integrate with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, Dropbox and your camera roll

 Makes us sad:

  • Twitter is a bit of a mission to set up, as you need to download an archive file of your tweets from Twitter itself and then drop these into Timehop’s desktop version before it starts pulling in your tweets

  • The notifications settings are limited to daily notifications, so if you only want them once a week or every second day, for example, this is not possible.
  • You’re limited to exploring your Timehop of today in the past, not a day before or after. A history of Timehops would be pretty cool to see.
